PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial inkjet printer which enables an ink meniscus to be properly vibrated so as to prevent clogging of an ink nozzle, without causing a decrease in printing speed. SOLUTION: While an electrostatic inkjet head 110 moves to a printing area from a home position, a drive voltage pulse kPw for vibrating the ink meniscus is applied between a diaphragm electrode 119 of an electrostatic actuator of the inkjet head 110 and a fixed-side electrode 121 thereof, and the ink meniscus of the ink nozzle 115 is vibrated without the ejection of an ink droplet, so that the clogging of the ink nozzle 115 can be prevented. The pulse kPw has a trapezoidal waveform, and fall time Pwdg of the drive voltage pulse is made at least 1.5 times as long as a natural period To of the inkjet head. Thus, a voltage setting range of the drive voltage pulse can be made wider, and the clogging can be easily and surely prevented by vibrating the ink meniscus without ejecting the ink droplet.
