The vibration absorber (1) comprises a piston rod (5) axially moving in a cylinder (3) and fitted with a supporting element (9) carrying a stop disk (13), both forming a circular gap (23) with the inner surface of the cylinder (3). The support element (9) is designed as a solid disk with vertical grooves (29) around its outer edge, the stop disk (13) is provided with one or more openings (31) and kept under tension by a spring (15). The edges of the openings (31) form a return valve in combination with the support element (9).
