A method is provided for making a perfluorinated vinyl ether having a sulfon yl fluoride end-group according to the formula FSO2#191-(CF2#191)n#191-O- CF=CF2#191, where n is 2-5, comprising the steps of: a) fluorination of: (PLEASE INSERT THE CHEMICAL FORMULA HERE AS IT APPEARS IN THE PAPER COPY) to produce FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n-1)#191 COF; b) reaction of FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n - 1)#191 COF with hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) to produce FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n)#191 O-CF(CF3#191)-COF; c) reaction of FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n)#191 O- CF(CF3#191)-COF with a salt of a metal cation M+p , where p is the valence o f M, to produce (FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n)#191 O-CF(CF3#191)-COO-)p#191M+p; and d) thermal cracking of FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n)#191 O-CF(CF3#191)- COO-)p#191M+p t o produce FSO2#191 (CF2#191)(n)#191 O-CF=CF2.#191
