PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling bearing unit that is fitted with a sealing device incorporating a rotation detector and excellent in dust resistance, can detect the speed and direction of rotation of an axle, and can make the rotation detector compact. SOLUTION: In the rolling bearing unit, balls 4 and 5 are interposed between the track planes of inner and outer ring members 2 and 3 and the sealing device 8 is fitted between the shoulder sections of the ring members 2 and 3. The sealing device 8 is composed of an outer ring-side sealing ring 81 fixed to the outer ring member 2 and an inner ring-side sealing ring 82 fixed to the inner ring member 3. A pulser ring 16 is fixed to the internal surface of the annular core bar of the inner ring-side sealing ring 82 and a forward/backward detecting sensor 15 is integrated with the sealing device 8 in one body on the outside diameter side of the annular core bar of the outer ring-side sealing ring 81 in a state where the sensor 15 and device 8 are molded with a resin-made encapsulating material 17.
