The crankcase for an internal combustion engine comprises an upper section (2) with one or more cylinder bores (5) and below which is a bearing block (3) connected to it. The transition region between the upper case section and bearing block is formed by rib-form bearers (10-13) between which lies window openings (15,16). A support (9) extending from the bearing block to the upper case section is split into the bearers in Y-form in the direction of the upper crankcase section.
