The computer-controlled method records data into a management system (1) which can be used to identify the user (9) and at least one vehicle (17) belonging to the user which needs to be parked. The user makes a reservation for a parking permit and/or exemption for a given location and time period via a telecommunication link (14) with the management system and the reserved permit is activated when the vehicle is registered as having been parked at the given location. The system checks to see if a reservation has been made for the given location and time and if such a reservation has been made a valid parking transaction is generated by the system for the user, vehicle, location and time.
