<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device capable of accurately extracting a face area when the in exposure is changing by backlight or in excessive light. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality times of photometries are conducted on several conditions to precisely measure a wide dynamic range in an AE processing of a digital camera (steps S110 to S112). An image having a highest chroma of the complexion area out of a plurality of images captured by a plurality times of photometries is selected (step S118). An area having a hue of the complexion within the image in that image is detected (step S120), and an obtained complexion area is divided by chroma (S122). Each complexion area divided by chroma is shape recognized (step S124), and a final face area is extracted. In place of the use of the photometries, information on a bracket photographing for serially photographing the same scene by different exposure conditions (correct, under, or over exposure) may be used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
