PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brightness adjusting system which automatically adjusts brightness and suppresses an adjustment degree variation to provide a stable-quality liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: Upon switching to a brightness adjusting mode, a video signal generator 38 shows a half tone image (gray) on a liquid crystal panel 32. A dimmer circuit 24 detects the brightness of the panel 32 to compare it with a reference value preset by a controller 26. If the brightness is out of a correct range of the reference value and lower than the reference value, the controller 26 sends a brightness control signal for increasing the brightness volume value by a specified quantity gray scale to an image generator 38. Upon the receipt of the sent brightness control signal, the image generator 38 varies the brightness adjusting control of the panel 32. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
