PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum pigment excellent in reflection properties and heat resistance and suitable as a compounding ingredient of a coating material for forming a coating film functioning as a reflective surface of a vehicle lamp fitting. SOLUTION: The aluminum pigment has a water surface diffusion area of 5.0 m<SP>2</SP>/g or higher, a ratio of water surface diffusion area to average particle size of 1.0 or higher, and a leafing value of 80% or higher. The pigment, having the above-described water surface diffusion area, ratio of water surface diffusion area to average particle size, and leafing value, is prepared by controlling the shape of an aluminum powder before grinding or milling, the conditions of grinding or milling, and the like.
