PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high silver iodide photographic emulsion having high sensitivity to infrared light and good storage stability, and to provide a heat developable photosensitive material having high sensitivity, low Dmin and high Dmax and excellent in image preservability to light after processing. SOLUTION: In a silver halide photographic emulsion containing 80-100 mol% of silver iodide and having a pAg of 2.0-5.0, (1) spectral sensitization is carried out with at least one spectral sensitizing dye having a polarographic half-wave reduction potential of baser than -1.2 V and a polarographic half-wave oxidation potential of nobler than 0.2 V, (2) sensitization maximum is provided at a wavelength longer than 720 nm, (3) sensitivity at the sensitization maximum wavelength is≥5 times as high as sensitivity to light of a wavelength longer than the sensitization maximum wavelength by 30 nm, and (4) it is≥2 times as high as sensitivity to light of a wavelength shorter than the sensitization maximum wavelength by 30 nm. The high silver iodide photographic emulsion having high spectral sensitivity according to the desired spectral sensitivity in the infrared region and excellent in storage stability is obtained, and the heat developable photosensitive material having high sensitivity, low Dmin and high Dmax and excellent in image preservability to photoirradiation after processing is also obtained.
