PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide particles for a display device having high display visibility in illumination light of weak light or in darkness and to provide an image display medium and an image forming apparatus obtained by using the particles. SOLUTION: The particles for the display device is characterized in that the particles can be positively or negatively charged by external stimulation and comprises a luminous substance. The image display medium consist of a pair of substrates disposed opposite to each other and a particle group made up of at least two kinds of display particles encapsulated in the gap between a pair of the substrates, wherein at least one kind of display particles of the at least two kinds of particles have a property that the particles can be positively charged by external stimulation and at least the other one kind of display particles have a property that the particles can be negatively charged by external stimulation. In the image display medium, the display particles capable of being positively or negatively charged by external stimulation mutually have colors different from each other and at least one kind of display particles capable of being positively or negatively charged by external stimulation are particles for the display device.
