PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground jointing type shield machine which makes the length of a shield machine on a reception side short. SOLUTION: The first shield machine 1 on the reception side is equipped with a cylindrical intermediate barrel 5, an outer barrel 6 which is externally fitted to the intermediate barrel 5 in a slidable manner, a cylindrical inner barrel 7 which is internally fitted into the tip of the intermediate barrel 5 in a slidable manner, an outer-barrel push-out driving means 18 which can drive the outer barrel 6 so as to push out it in an excavating direction with respect to the intermediate barrel 5, and a retreat driving means 19 which can drive the inner barrel 7 so as to retreat it by a cutter disc 8 etc. in a direction opposite to the excavating direction with respect to the intermediate barrel 5. A second shield machine on a penetration side is equipped with a cylindrical outer barrel, a cylindrical inner barrel which is internally fitted into the tip of the outer barrel in a slidable manner, an inner-barrel push-out driving means which can drive the inner barrel so as to push out it by the cutter disc etc. in the excavating direction with respect to the outer barrel, and a cut-off device for cutting off a section between the cut-off device and the inner peripheral surface of the outer barrel 6 of the shield machine 1 in an underground jointing state.
