PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method for forming an image of high image quality without transfer dust and transfer void due to discharge during transfer separation by having a high transfer rate, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming method forms a toner image developing an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier with toner, and next, uses a transfer system for electrostatically transferring the toner image on the image carrier on a transfer body by using a transfer means consisting of a roller or a belt. Furthermore, the transfer means is provided with an elastic layer of 60-80 degrees of hardness, a pressure of 1-10N/cm is applied between the transfer means and the image carrier a transfer bias current between the image carrier and the transfer means is 0.05-0.2μA/cm, a thickness of a charge transport layer of the image carrier is 10-20μm, an OPC photoreceptor in which an electrostatic capacity is 100 pF/cm<SP>2</SP>or more is used, and toner in which a shape factor SF-1 is 100-140 as the toner is used. Thereby the image of the high image quality can be formed without the transfer dust and transfer void due to discharge during transfer separation by having the high transfer rate.
