PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition for immersion which has reduced environmental loading, is excellently safe in operation and has excellent washing performance and to provide a method for washing a material to be washed. SOLUTION: The detergent composition for immersion is used for immersing and washing a material to be washed such as tableware, cooking equipment, etc., before or after a main washing process with which the material to be washed is washed by an automatic washer and comprises at least one of (A) at least one kind of an acid selected from a monocarboxylic acid, a dicarboxylic acid, a polycarboxylic acid and their water-soluble salts and (B) at least one kind of a salt selected from sulfates and chlorides.
