Increased strength potential of the fibrous suspension (5.1) in the web (4) edges (R1, R2), is achieved by partial, preferably complete introduction of endless reinforcement (13) there. The reinforcement is introduced directly at the headbox (2) of the papermaking machine. It is preferably held by friction on the sieve section (3), with its orientation in the direction (S) of sieve screen progress. From the high strength edge regions at least one carry-over strip (15) is separated. The strip is carried over to or beyond the drying section. It may continue through a soft calendar or multi-nip calender, possibly with more than 8 calendar rollers. It is then re-suspended and recycled. It is alternatively wound up. The strip is cut to achieve the appropriate width when quality and/or production requirements are satisfied. Significant quality parameters include the surface roughness, the transverse shrinkage profile and the fiber orientation. One production characteristic of the carry-over strip is its velocity. The duration of use or production of fibrous suspension with greater strength potential is controlled. Further operation in the case of a shutdown or tear is described. The endless reinforcement comprises a thread, especially a plastic thread, a strip or a preferably porous fleece. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding papermaking machine.
