Optical fiber with integrated pump light source

The device has an optical cable provided with an axial symmetry and a fibre core (11) doped with phosphorescent or fluorescent impurities. A transparent envelope has a jacket layer (13) surrounding a cladding layer (12). An organic light emitting diode (2) positioned coaxially to the cable has an active area (23) between inner and outer electrodes, and another axial symmetry. The light source and the cable are integrated together. The inner electrode is transparent such that light generated in the active area is propagated outside the light source and into the optical cable.
