PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method, a program, a recording medium, an image processor and an image forming apparatus which precisely reproduce an image formed on a manuscript, e.g., characters. SOLUTION: A region separating processor 13 identifies and separates achromatic character forming regions from the entire image given by an image input unit 2. As for the achromatic character forming region, high-density acquirers 32 for the individual colors acquire maximum density values of pixels. Learning units 39 for the individual colors calculate correcting information, based on the maximum density values and maximum target values of the achromatic character forming region. Based on the correcting information, color correcting units 40 for the individual colors correct the density values of the pixels in the achromatic character forming region. This precisely corrects the density values of the pixels in the achromatic character forming regions and hence precisely reproduces characters formed on the manuscript. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
