PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of preventing hardware of a scanner from being destroyed even when reading is going to be tried under a condition that an over-voltage is received in mistake. SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is the image reading apparatus that is characterized in to include: an image sensor for converting an image read through scanning of an original into an electric image signal; a voltage detection means for detecting a voltage of a power supply externally supplied after application of power; and a control means for avoiding reading of the original as its control when the detected voltage exceeds a prescribed value.
