<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanner capable of not only authenticating an individual by a fingerprint but also easily inputting a character string such as a URL (user requirement language) and an e-mail address, a bar code, etc., and a portable information terminal such as a cellular phone and a PDA (personal digital assistant) incorporating the image scanner. <P>SOLUTION: The cellular phone 20 has the image scanner incorporated and its part 8 to contact an object to be scanned protrudes outward.
