The transfer station for a stream of tins (2) is supplied from a conveyor which is perpendicular to the exit conveyor. The exit conveyor includes a slider frame (25) which is also provided with a hinged pusher plate (38). A stack (6) of packing trays (5) is located above the slider frame, on the same level as the exit conveyor. When the slider frame moves forward, the pusher shifts a set of tins (2) on a packing tray onto the exit conveyor. At the same time, the lowest tray from the stack is moved to a position in which it is ready to receive the next set of tins (2) which arrive on the supply conveyor.
