The testing device has a single stationary testing station provided with an X-ray tube (1) and an X-ray detector (2) and at least 2 independently operated manipulators (3a,3b), each rotated between at least 2 different positions, for movement of the tested tyre (6) between a loading and/or unloading position and a testing position in which it lies between the X-ray tube and the detector. The manipulators can be mounted on a turntable (4) which rotates about a vertical rotation axis (41). An Independent claim for a testing method for automobile tyres is also included.
