<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a proper density of a developer (a proper density of a magnetic brush) in a developing region, to ensure excellent graininess and gradation property, and to enhance the reproducibility of a dot image in a halftone area. <P>SOLUTION: In the developing method in which a developing sleeve disposed opposite to a photoreceptor and having a built-in magnet supports a two-component developer comprising a toner and a magnetic carrier and conveys the developer to a developing region formed between the sleeve and the photoreceptor, and a latent image formed on the surface of an image carrier is developed with the toner, in a developer conveying region situated on the upstream side of the developing region in the rotating direction of the developing sleeve. When the amount of the developer per unit area (g/cm<SP>2</SP>) is represented by A, the coefficient of surface covering which represents the coverage of a surface of the developing sleeve with the developer is represented by α, and the value which is an apparent coverage calculated assuming A=0 and is determined by the powder properties of the developer is represented by β, the apparent coverage M of the developing sleeve with the developer represented by M=αA+β(%) satisfies 90-120%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
