PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which a noise produced from a driving motor accompanying the increase in the revolution of a polygon mirror composing the optical scanner is prevented, the effect of an insulation of sound is enhanced, further, the strength of a housing in the vicinity of a polygon scanner is enhanced, and the vibration of the polygon scanner is prevented, and a defect of writing is eliminated. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is provided with the polygon scanner 4 which is provided with a rotary polygon mirror 4a which deflects a laser beam emitted from a light source, and an optical housing 3 which supports the polygon scanner. The optical scanner is also provided with a side wall 5 which is disposed on the optical housing to enclose the polygon scanner, and a transmission type optical element 6 which composes a part of the side wall and makes the laser beam deflected by a rotary polygon mirror transmit to the outside of the side wall.
