PURPOSE: A method for controlling power in a communication system is provided to reduce multiple user interference to a reverse channel by reducing waste of power by dynamically updating a PCT, thereby increasing reverse capacity. CONSTITUTION: An RRI(Reverse Rate Indication) signal is received(S10). A channel estimator restores a phase of the received RRI signal distracted by a fading channel(S11). Correlation values of the restored signal are obtained by walsh decover and block code decoding, wherein the biggest correlation value and the second biggest correlation value are obtained(S12). RRI information is restored by the biggest correlation value to judge whether data is transmitted by the restored RRI information(S13,S14). If so, the existing normal mode OLPC(Open Loop Power Control) algorithm is applied(S15). If not, a PCT(Power Control Threshold) is updated(S16,S17,S18).
