PURPOSE: A multi-domain liquid crystal display device is provided to improve an aperture ratio by reducing a black matrix forming area by forming a slit or protrusion at a border of two domains. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of gate lines(101) and a plurality of data lines(102) are arranged on a first substrate for defining pixels(221). A first alignment film and a second alignment film form two domains different in a liquid crystal alignment direction to the pixels. An electric field distorting element(220) is formed on the first substrate at a border of the two domains. The electric field distorting element distorts a vertical electric field generated between the first substrate and the second substrate to correct a disclination line(223) generated at the border of the two domains into a straight-line shape. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate.
