PURPOSE: A de-interlacing method and a device thereof are provided to determine strong motion mode in an area having no motion by carrying out IPC with motion index values detected from filter values 2-D low pass filtered. CONSTITUTION: A de-interlacing device includes a spatial interpolation unit(430), a temporal interpolation unit(450), a motion index detecting unit(420), and a motion mode determining unit(460). The spatial interpolation unit carries out spatial interpolation in edge direction detected at respective pixel positions in a current frame. The temporal interpolation unit obtains means of two pixels of the current frame and a previous frame. The motion index detecting unit carries out 2-D low pass filtering for pixels of the current frame and pixels delayed by a frame, obtains difference values between the filtered pixels, and detects motion index values of the pixels in a filed by comparing the difference values with threshold values. The motion mode determining unit determines a motion mode on the basis on motion index values of pixels of a current field and environmental pixels of past and future fields detected by the motion index detecting unit. According to the motion mode, either of the spatial interpolation unit and the temporal interpolation unit is selected. |
