PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing di-2-propylheptyl phthalate from easily available starting materials in a stable manner, by which a plasticizer having physical properties at least equivalent to those of DiNDP and DiDP. CONSTITUTION: The process for producing di-2-propylheptyl phthalate represented by the following structural formula (I) comprises a first and a second esterification step using 2-propylheptanol, dry phthalic anhydride and tetraisopropyl titanate. In the process, during the second esterification step performed in a reactor, nitrogen gas supplied from a separate line is bubbled through a nozzle attached to the inside of the reactor to remove the water produced from the reaction and to inhibit the color development in the reaction mixture.
