PURPOSE: A method for changing port information of an ATM exchange and a device therefor are provided to change port information without canceling all currently connected calls, thereby expanding an available range of virtual paths/virtual channels of the port by an operator. CONSTITUTION: A command input module receives an information change command for an optional port from an operator(S10). A call control module requests a call processing module to confirm access information of an existing connected call(S11). The call control module compares the access information with a changed range, and decides whether the changed range is bigger than an existing range(S12). If so, the control module performs a port blocking process(S14), and decides whether a changed bandwidth is bigger than a currently used bandwidth(S15). If so, the control module deletes access information of a PVC(S16). The module checks whether an error is generated(S17). If not, the module deletes information on the port, and changes into port information to be changed by the operator(S19). The module outputs the changed port information(S20).
