PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation static eliminator for preventing an abnormal image when separating/destaticizing under a low humidity environment by appropriately applying a bias, and to provide an image forming apparatus for a copying machine, a facsimile and a printer, etc., equipped with the separation static eliminator. SOLUTION: As for the separation static eliminator 13, the superposed bias obtained by superposing a DC bias on an AC bias is applied so as to separate a recording medium 3 transferred with an unfixed toner image T from an image carrier 2 from the image carrier 2, and the DC bias is superposed on the AC bias so that the DC component of the current by the superposed bias becomes zero or so that the polarity becomes opposite to that of toner.
