PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and a double feed detecting method capable of surely detecting a double feed by utilizing an image obtained from a scanner. SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is the image processing apparatus comprising the scanner 20 and a computer 30. An image processing section 110 included in the computer 30 detects edges each including a prescribed straight line component from an image received from the scanner 20 to detect a double feed of a document on the basis of the gradient of each edge.
