PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select either a color system suited to print or the other color system from a transmitting side in accordance with whether or not printing is to be performed on a receiving side when the receiving side is capable of dealing with both an sYCC color space and a CIELAB color space. SOLUTION: On the transmitting side of facsimile equipment, a call is originated to facsimile equipment on the receiving side (ST3) and when a DIS signal is received, it is judged whether or not the receiving side has a color receiving capability (ST7) and is capable of dealing with both the color spaces (ST8). When the receiving side is capable of dealing with the both, in the case of printing on the receiving side (ST10), the color space is converted from sYCC into CIELAB, and data are sent out (ST11). When the receiving side is not capable of dealing with CIELAB (ST9) or printing is not performed on the receiving side (ST10), on the other hand, the data are transmitted while keeping the sYCC color space as it is.
