PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve COP (coefficiency of performance) of a car air-conditioner, etc. SOLUTION: An electric compressor has an electric motor 2 and a scroll compressor 8 in series in a casing 1. A stator coil 4 of the electric motor 2 is a segment coil. A clearance is formed at both coil ends 41 and 42 in an orderly line. Coolant C sucked from a coolant suction port 10 is sprayed to the coil end 42 opposed to the compressor 8 to cool it, and to cool a straight part of a segment via an air gap, and is sucked into the compressor 8 after cooling by blowing through the coil end 41. Application of the segment coil reduces the passage resistance at both the coil ends 41 and 42 to increase COP in high speed rotating range determining the cool down performance and enables the miniaturization and the reduction in weight.
