At this point, when the image data have high gradations, the data current Idata corresponding to the gradations are supplied to the hold capacitor C1. When the image data has low gradations, on the other hand, not a data current Idata corresponding to the low gradations, but a predetermined data current Idata for high gradations is supplied to the hold capacitor C1. Further, when the image data has the low gradations, the light emission period of an organic EL element emitting light with a driving current corresponding to the data current Idata is made shorter than its normal light emission period.
