PURPOSE: A cold cathode fluorescent lamp and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to increase the length of effective light emission without degrading efficiency of electron emission and reliability of illuminance. CONSTITUTION: A cold cathode fluorescent lamp comprises a glass valve(1) encapsulated with a rare gas(3) and a mercury(4); a phosphor layer(2) formed on the inner wall of the glass valve; and electrodes(5a,5b) seal bonded to both ends of the glass valve. The electrodes are shaped as cylinders with bottoms. The ends of the glass valve are seal bonded to the cylindrical portions of the electrodes in such a manner that open ends of the electrodes are protruded toward the interior of the glass tube and exposed. The bottoms of the electrodes are disposed in the region where the ends of the glass valve are seal bonded.
