PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the accuracy of printing at a back end by enhancing the accuracy of the detection of a back-end position of paper. SOLUTION: In a motor control method, a means for controlling a motor for conveyance of recording paper by using both hardware and software is provided; N (N: 2 or more) steps are controlled by a hardware circuit for controlling the motor; a CPU counts steps in increments of the N steps in accordance with an interrupt signal which is generated from the hardware circuit every N steps; an in-N-step detection timing position M of detection timing of a sensor for detecting the back end of the paper is stored in a register; and when the back end is detected, the accurate number of the steps in back-end detection timing is determined by adding up the number of the steps, managed by the software, and the value of the register.
