PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit illegitimate copying without disturbing reproduction of an existing reproducing apparatus at all. SOLUTION: Encryption data 5 to limit copying of data are recorded by generating pits and lands or marks and spaces so that the timing of edges of the pits and lands or the timing of edges of the marks and spaces detected at reproduction is changed in units of a reference period within a range wherein the data can correctly be reproduced.
