摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection-type optical sensor which can prevent detection accuracy from lowering due to disturbances and angular errors in sensor arrangements, and to provide a carriage and an information processing apparatus. SOLUTION: A medium sensor 68 has a cap member 85 with a common aperture section 85b, thereby enabling both a projection angle range of a light-emitting element 82 and photo acceptance angle range of a light-sensitive element 83 to be limited to small ranges, reducing the influence of the disturbance and preventing the detection accuracy from lowering, even when low-cost elements having low directivity are employed therein. In the medium sensor 68, the light-emitting element 82 and the light-receiving element 83 are arranged in the direction identical to one which is perpendicular to a paper P, thereby reducing the lowering of the detection accuracy, because of the angular errors in the arrangements of respective elements and the sensor itself, in comparison with a sensor in which respective elements are arranged obliquely, enabling scaling down of the arrangement regions of the respective elements in the sensor and miniaturizing of the sensor.
