PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent excessive carriers from flowing into an adjacent pixel or another floating area. SOLUTION: The photoelectric converter has a photoelectric conversion area 3 for storing electric charges corresponding to the incident light, and has signal electric charges from the photoelectric conversion area input to an electric field-effect transistor 7 for amplification. In the converter, the photoelectric conversion area 3 is surrounded by a potential barrier area (a selected oxide film 1 and a channel stopper 2), a deficient area (an overflow channel 9) is generated at a part of the potential barrier area, and a drain area of the same conductivity as that of the photoelectric conversion area of the electric field-effect transistor is arranged adjacent to the deficient area.
