PURPOSE: A method for automatically setting a communication port for data communication is provided to recognize types of communication ports connected to a terminal for data communication and automatically set a suitable communication port. CONSTITUTION: When a data cable for data communication is mounted in a communication terminal(210), a type of the communication port of the mounted data cable is recognized(211) to check whether the communication port of the data cable is a USB(Universal Serial Bus) port(212). If the communication port is a USB port, a data communication service port is allocated to a USB device of the communication terminal and a diagnostic port to a UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) device of the communication terminal(213). If the communication port is not the USB port but the UART port, the data communication service port is allocated to the first UART device of the communication terminal and the diagnostic port to the second UART device(214).
