The ring spanner has a main body (10) with ring head (11) at one end with an inside wall with toothed area (12) which has a ring groove (14) on one side in which an elastomer can engage. The inner wall of the ring head also has a smooth area (13) adjoining the toothed area and with a diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the workpiece. The elastomer can through its resetting force press the workpiece from the toothed area into the smooth area. The elastomer can be made of plastics, rubber or replaced through an air cushion.
