The arrangement has at least one detector of the distance to an obstruction and a unit for evaluating detector data and generating a warning for the driver depending on the distance between the vehicle and the obstruction. A memory unit stores the dimensions of at least one part on the vehicle protruding into the space between the detector and the obstruction. The distance is derived from the measured distance and the protruding part dimensions. The arrangement has at least one detector (7) for measuring a distance between the detector and an obstruction (5) and an evaluation unit for evaluating detector data and for generating a warning for the driver depending on the distance between the vehicle (1) and the obstruction. A memory unit stores the dimensions of at least one part (3,4) on the vehicle protruding into the space (50) between the detector and the obstruction. The distance is derived from the measured distance and the protruding part dimensions.
