PURPOSE: A field emission device and a method are provided to achieve improved stability and uniformity of electron emission from a CNT emitter by uniformly supplying a current to the emitting points of the CNT emitter. CONSTITUTION: A field emission device comprises a substrate(10); a cathode electrode(20) formed on the substrate; a gate insulating layer(30) formed on the cathode electrode, and which has a through hole(30a) corresponding to a certain part of the cathode electrode; a gate electrode(40) formed on the gate insulating layer, and which has a gate hole(40a) corresponding to the through hole of the gate insulating layer; and an electron emitter(50) formed on the cathode electrode exposed from the bottom of the through hole. The electron emitter includes a resistive material layer(51) and an electron emitting material layer(52) formed on the resistive material layer.
