PURPOSE: A method for managing a forwarding table of a network processor in a line card having a plurality of processors and a multiplexor/demultiplexer according to learning of an address is provided to reduce the access number of forwarding table in each network by controlling the result of address learning, consequently the overhead that forwarding table entry is updated or removed several times in each network can be reduced in one time. CONSTITUTION: In case that a line card(5) repeatedly receives Ethernet data frames having the same source address, a demultiplexer(13) transmits the frames to each port of each network processor(10,11) in order. Each network processor(10,11) receiving the frames confirms own address learning table for adding an entry, initializes an aging timer, and transmits the received frames to a main processor(1). The main processor(1) confirms whether the same entry exists in a forwarding table of the main processor(1) by using the source address. If so, the main processor(1) examines a LRNG_CNT(learning count) flag value. If the LRNG_CNT flag value is larger than 0, the main processor(1) increases the LRNG_CNT flag value by 1. If the same entry does not exist, the main processor(1) adds the entry to the forwarding table, and increases the LRNG_CNT flag value by 1, and requests to generate an entry in the forwarding table of each network processor(10,11).
