Catalytic conversion of alkanes to alkenes

A process for the catalytic reaction of a C2 to C5 alkane and elemental sulphur to produce the corresponding alkene and hydrogen sulfide. The reaction mixture is contacted with a catalyst at a temperature of from 300 to 650oC. The catalyst has a surface area greater than 100 square meters per gram. The selectivity of the process to alkene is greater than 90%, and the process is carried out at a space velocity of from 50 to 5000h-1.
