PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter capable of stably distributing data contents of a large capacity at a practical level independently of a network connection environment of a user and to provide a receiver and a reception method. SOLUTION: A broadcast station 11 transmits encrypted moving picture contents with link information attached thereto. A server 12 stores an encryption key to decode the encrypted moving picture contents. A television broadcast receiver 15 stores the received encrypted moving picture contents and link information to a hard disk 18 and acquires the encryption key from the server 12 via the Internet 19 on the basis of the link information to decode the encrypted moving picture contents.
