PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composite material of high reliability which can prevent such a trouble that gas contained in a porous body is released gradually by a change in temperature in use and retained on the interface between the porous body and an FRP layer to cause interfacial delamination or the swell of the FRP layer by deaerating the porous body in advance, or the gas left on the interface is expanded and contracted repeatedly by a change in temperature in use owing to the formation of the FRP layer before the gas is enough released to peel off the interface. SOLUTION: In the method, reinforcing fibers such as carbon fibers are arranged on the surface of the porous body such as polyurethane foam which is deaerated in advance to adjust the volume ratio of the contained gas to be 0.9 or below, the porous body is impregnated with a thermosetting resin, and the FRP layer is formed by curing the resin.
