PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer apparatus for reducing a delay with respect to transfer while reducing a packet loss.

SOLUTION: A data transfer network system is configured to include: a data transmission apparatus 2 having a transmission port through which a packet is transmitted and a means for storing the packet to a transmission buffer corresponding to the transmission port; and the data transfer apparatus 1 having a means for searching a path of the packet received from the data transmission apparatus 2 and a means for storing the packet to a transfer buffer corresponding to a transfer port acting like a path for the packet. The data transmission apparatus 2 decides a retention time of the packet stored in the transmission buffer in response to the amount of the packet in the transfer buffer. Thus, it is avoided that the transfer buffer collectively receives packets from a plurality of transmission buffers.
