PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume measuring method for infinitesimal droplets, less liable to produce errors when finding the volume of every infinitesimal droplet and capable of making a comparison between droplets discharged all at once from many discharge holes, and to provide a substrate for specimen collection suitable for performing such a volume measuring method for infinitesimal droplets. SOLUTION: The problem can be solved by that the substrate 2 for specimen collection is prepared having a lyophilic area 22 surrounded by a liquid-repellent area 21, and a plurality of droplets 3 are deposited and spread in the lyophilic area 22 to form a liquid layer 4, the thickness of the liquid layer 4 is optically measured to find its volume based on the measurement result, and the volume of each infinitesimal droplet is found by dividing the volume by the number of droplets required.
