PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which can always keep reliability in printing of a recording head by maintaining, for a long time, a moisturized state in an internal space of a capping member for sealing a nozzle forming surface of the recording head. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder includes the recording head for discharging ink drips from a nozzle; a capping means which can transit between a state for sealing with the nozzle forming surface of the recording head and a separate state; and a suction pump communicating with the capping means via a tube for rotating a roller for pressing the tube against a tube supporting surface for arcuately supporting the tube to bring the space formed between the capping means and the nozzle forming surface into a negative pressure. The roller of the suction pump can transit between a state of pressing the tube and a state separate from the tube, and includes a control means for the control to seal the nozzle forming surface of the recording head with the capping means and press the tube by the roller.
