A reel 10 for metallic wire comprises a cylindrical winding drum 1, and a pair of flanges 2 provided integrally on right and left sides of the winding drum 1. A winding face 1a of the cylindrical winding drum 1 is wrapped by a cylindrical drum cover plate 5 provided with a gap a between the drum cover plate 5 and the winding face 1a and configured to cover substantially entire periphery of the winding face 1a, and the drum cover plate 5 has a discontinuous portion 6 to absorb a winding pressure applied to the drum cover plate 5.
